has four years of governing ahead of him and he has a legacy to build. these next four years are incredibly important for what barack obama, president obama is going to stand for in history. i agree with maria, it has to be about unity. tomorrow is a day for lofty rhetoric. not a day for details or policy specifics. it's a day to bring us together to make us all feel american and celebrate democracy. you know what i think he's going to try to be? memorable. very few memorable state of the inaugural addresses. i think he is going to shoot for that memory tomorrow. >> a lot of democrats in town and a lot of the parties today, tomorrow, will be democrats. what do you do if you're a republican this weekend? what is the right way to behave today, tomorrow and then going forward, do you think? >> watch it on tv and eat ice cream. >> eat bonbons on the couch. >> dump your thumb in whiskey. let me tell you. i love the pomp and circumstance, i love the ceremony it and i love the significance. both maria and i were not born here. we come from different countries where there has been po

.s. military, how is the obama administration in this coming up four years going to go after this new al qaeda refuge? these are very remote areas. the u.s. military has very few forces in the region and, look, they are going to need permission of countries to go in there if they are going to go into these places. algeria has made it clear it doesn't want help. and libya is it a country that basically has no coherent national military force, a lot of militias running many parts of libya. so to go after al qaeda, it's a nice set of words but a promise that may be very hard to live up to, wolf. >> certainly will be, barbara. thank you. >>> an american worker at the algerian gas facility tells cnn he escaped on the first day of the siege by islamic terrorists. mark cobb, believed to be a resident of texas, told cnn in a message that he's safe after escaping with some algerian staffers. according to his linkedin pain, he's manager of a joint venture in algeria. >>> other news right now, it was a blunt and chilling confession to the world. lance armstrong admitting unequivocally to oprah winfrey th

president obama, my name is julia. i'm an 11-year-old who lives here in d.c. there are no words to explain how sad i am about the school shooting. even though i'm not scared for my safety, i'm scared for others. i have four brothers and sisters and i know i would not be able to bear the thought of losing any of them. i may not be that into politics, but my opinion is it should be very hard for people to buy guns. the only thing they do is harm or kill and guns should only be in the most horrible event, where others will get hurt if they are not. i know that laws have to be passed by congress, but i beg you to try very hard to make guns not allowed, not just for me, but the whole united states. my love and regrets, julia. >> that's a very thoughtful letter, julia. why did you decide to sit down and write it? >> well, i was overwhelmed with sadness about the school shooting and knew as one person i couldn't do anything, but i knew that president obama could. so i decided to write this letter hoping that at least he would read it and think of doing something. >> theo, you're the dad. did you

] fight 7 signs of aging flawlessly. cc what's possible. >>> four years ago president obama said -- >> on this day we gather because we've chosen hope over fear. unity of purpose over conflict and discord. on the day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics. >> and any notion that an obama administration would bring about an end to dogma or discord quickly evaporated during the first of the presidency and seemed positively quaint after republicans resumed control of the house. the lessons learned by the administration in the first four years have made the president a very different leader. far less conciliatory in to be and arguably in substance. in the central message of 2008 to change the way the ligs does. he characterized the messy political process as something not to overcome, but rather to embrace. >> democracy in a nation of 300 million can be noisy and messy and complicated. we have our own opinions. each of us has deeply-held beliefs. and when we go thr
